From #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson comes a rollicking, riveting tale set in the Cosmere universe–a standalone adventure perfect for fans of The Princess Bride.

The only life Tress has known on her island home in an emerald-green ocean has been a simple one, with the simple pleasures of collecting cups brought by sailors from faraway lands and listening to stories told by her friend Charlie. But when his father takes him on a voyage to find a bride and disaster strikes, Tress must stow away on a ship and seek the Sorceress of the deadly Midnight Sea. Amid the spore oceans where pirates abound, can Tress leave her simple life behind and make her own place sailing a sea where a single drop of water can mean instant death?

This one-shot is probably the best of the Cosmere novellas with a noticeably different writing style. It reminds me of Douglas Adams Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy in its non-sequitur metaphors, and amusing main characters.

Upbeat, charming heroine and Douglas Adams would be proud like a fish on Tuesday

I haven’t read/listened to something this good in a long time. I love how the character stays true to her principles but becomes more adventurous. Highly highly recommend!

Incredible universe and character building

I didn't realize I bought the graphic audio version. At first I was thinking about returning it, but it quickly started growing on me and I really enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed the story and didn't see the twists coming at all.

It was also fun having Hoyd a part of the story and crew in such a unique way. It helped to build his depth of character while still keeping him mysterious. Very fun!

Tress's character development was delightful to follow and I like how it inspires the reader to believe in themselves and not give up on their personal stories and quests.

Don't give up

A fun inversion of a classic story, told with delightfully witty narration. Would absolutely recommend.

Excellent addition to the Cosmere
