Detroit Tigers were edged out by the Cleveland Guardians 2-1 at Progressive Field in Cleveland. Matt Vierling provided an early spark for the Tigers with a solo homer in the first inning, his lone hit in a solid performance. Detroit’s starter Jack Flaherty was dominant on the mound, pitching six innings of one-run ball with six strikeouts, but received limited run support. The Guardians managed to tie the game in the fifth inning when Steven Kwan singled in Bo Naylor. The game remained knotted until the eighth inning, when Josh Naylor's clutch single drove in Bo Naylor, ultimately sealing the win for the Guardians. Detroit struggled offensively, managing only two hits, and despite a strong bullpen effort, their bats were quieted by Cleveland’s pitching staff, which combined for nine strikeouts and allowed only one run. Following this tough loss, the Tigers fall to a 50-52 record for the season.
