Escaping domestic abuse - how one charity is innovating using crowdfunding to help women in crisis

  • Summary

  • Crowdfunder and the National Benevolent Charity have launched a collaborative campaign called 'Home is where the harm is' to address this domestic abuse head-on. Working alongside Ren Yi Hooi at Lightning Reach and Gareth Evans at Cash Perks, they are utilizing crowdfunding to provide immediate financial support to victims of domestic abuse. Since the Euros, a domestic violence flashpoint, they have raised over c £20,000 through the crowd and distributed it discretely via 95 micro grants through local ATMs to women in desperate circumstances, making a tangible difference in their lives.

Ali Russell from the National Benevolent Society explains how the idea came about and how crowdfunding is helping her charity raise the funds they need.
