Among the hopefuls, the one leading the power rankings is a relatively new name in Senator Mark Kelly in Arizona. Kelly is married to former Rep. Gabby Giffords (D-Ariz.), who was tragically shot during a campaign event with constituents in 2011–like Trump recently. Since then, she has become a leading voice in the fight for gun reform.

• Other Democratic Party hopefuls on the list are: Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D).
