  • Is your business stuck in a rut and not growing as fast as you'd hoped for, or not at all? If you answered yes, then your business could probably do with some systemizing. Not sure what business systemizing is? It is a process of taking your daily activities and tasks and streamlining them.

    Think of your business as a large shelf with small racks and ladders funneling into it. These small ladders are your systems that feed your entire business. The best way to grow your business is by increasing your productivity. If you create online products, for example, the more products you have for sale increases your profitability. Not having streamlined processes can really eat into your time and hamper your productivity.

    Before you can start systemizing and growing your business, you need to have a vision for your business. Do you know what your goals are and where you're headed? If not, take some time to work this out first. Now start looking at what obstacles you have. Identify all those things that you feel are holding you back from growing your business. Are you working for clients? Does customer service eat up all of your time? Make a list of everything as these will become your first targets when it comes to systemizing your business.

    Basically, any task can be turned into a system, but you should focus on those things that you either don't like doing or have difficulty with. Look for repetitive tasks that have to be done but are time-consuming. This might include things such as preparing invoices, preparing quotes, sending out emails, bookkeeping tasks, proofreading and editing, writing blog posts. Each one of these items can be turned into a procedure, either by creating how-to documents or by writing a longer training manual for it.

    Remember to include all necessary steps in your manual. Try to write it from the perspective of teaching someone who is totally unfamiliar with the process. It may even help to create videos or take screenshots of certain parts of the system. Once you've created these documents, you are now ready to hire people to help you run your business. This leaves you with time to work on things such as marketing, creating new products, and attracting new customers, which in turn will help grow your business and your profits.
