In 1983, the National Commission on Excellence in Education warned, “The educational foundations of our society are presently being eroded by a rising tide of mediocrity that threatens our very future as a nation and a people.”

Forty years later, are things better or worse? This book shares forty examples of how poorly today’s government schools are doing to show that the “rising tide of mediocrity” has created a tsunami of low expectations and poor performance, suggesting the need for alternative solutions.

Connor Boyack and Corey Deangelis detail descriptively the sad and remarkable descent of our education system in America. The authors clearly outline how weighed down by political corruption and monetary intrigue our national school administrations are, and the problems arising because of the devaluation of our teaching quality. With an impressive list of examples, the reader of this book will find themselves saturated in clinical trials, case studies, experiments, media stories, personal accounts, news reports, statistics, and conclusive results all warning of the fact that our children (and many of us reading this) have been sold short on our potential. Interesting read, definitely recommended for anyone curious.

Very well written and researched. Government schools do not have the students best interest in mind and they are getting progressively worse. Parents who are serious about their children’s education should read this. I’m so glad we have a good private school option in our area. Great on audio.

Parents should read this

I have been reading, learning and involved in different forms of education-public, private, homeschool, college and tech classes. I’ve read history of the public education system and the ways kids would learn prior.
We have got to change our paradigm! Don’t take personally if you are in the “system” or afraid of speaking out against corrupt unions that care more for money than what is actually best for students and teacher. Do what is moral and right, not what is comfortable and scary. Our children are suffering and Connor points out all the issues why.
We say we care about suicide, violence, depression and so on, along with how successful our children are-then we must let go of our ego and MUST CHANGE.
Please read and become involved for our children and grandchildren’s future.

Anyone who cares about education must read!!! Vital information for parents, educators, elected officials and even students.
