loved it

if I thought the first book had me on the edge of my seat I was wrong. I couldn't stop listening. I was held captive with this one. so many twists and turns. I absolutely loved it. I want to hear more of them. absolutely loved it.

Terrible

Don’t waste your time on this book. Tons of plot holes, thin character development, and rudimentary story lines.

on no the protagonist got dumb :(

I was absolutely hooked by the first book in this duology but unfortunately it seems that the first 2/3 or so of this story's conflict relies on our protagonist becoming a moron. It's one of those "plot only works if a misunderstanding that could easily be resolved in a single conversation remains in place" situations. We as the reader know that she's wrong long before she figures it out, which becomes very frustrating after the first couple of chapters.

Nothing here really, compared to the first book

I sensed it, kind of at the end of the first book, that the cliffhanger we had been presented with was kind of forced.
But okay, I decided to try this book anyway, because even if the first book is kind of low brow, it's juicy, like fast food. Like a nice burger at *insert your fave burger place here*.

This book is like as if the burger place removed the sauce that made the burger tasty, so now you're sitting on something bland and dry.
It's filling, I guess, but it wasn't enjoyable, whatever dynamic Leif had with Auren in the previous one, their tension here felt wholly manufactured.
I would have much rather read this book from Essen's point of view to be honest, she actually had some interesting things happening to her and real difficult choices she had to make.

It's just not enjoyable, throughout the whole story, you're just groaning because you know the tension exists only because Leaf got lied to, and Auren decides to kind of roll with that lie for whatever reason until he doesn't want to anymore, I'm just... yeah no I don't know why the previous book needed a sequel.
It's really not good.
