Frankie is laying out with Charlotte Philby, author of The End of Summer, to discuss flattering literary comparisons, how her family history has influenced her stories and why you should always keep everything you write. Oh, and the legacy of the much-missed More Magazine.

I had to wonder how having an infamous grandfather would affect your life. When Kim Philby absconded to Russia he left behind his wife and kids. Charlotte was 5, this is in the podcast, when he died so really didn't know him. But she learned about him from her grandmother and mother.
She says she's had a good life, is married with kids, and lives in Bristol after spending most of her life in London. Still, having an infamous family member is out there. I'm guessing, using the last name of Philby, even though married, is a way of leveraging the famous last name. She has had a career in journalism and eventually made her way to writing spy novels of all things. She says she took instances related to her by family and put them into her books. So she has used the family history as part of her stories.
Does this podcast make me want to listen to one of her books? I'm not sure, I'll have to see.
