Fancy a trip back in time to 1981? Then join Nick Taylor as he gets the opportunity of a lifetime to relive a whole year of his life.

1981 wasn't a year Nick remembered fondly. His mother was killed in a plane crash, his father ran off with the babysitter, and he was sent to possibly the most horrible school in the world. 2020 ends on a similar note when that babysitter, now his stepmother, can't be bothered to tell him his father is dying until it is too late and then promptly disinherits him.

Then Nick meets television star Keith Diamond who gives him a bracelet with the power to send him back in time. Arriving in 1981, before the events that shaped his annus horribilis, he realises he now has the power to change the timeline. There's just one problem no one takes any notice of you when you're only ten.

Join Nick, as he relives the experience of growing up in the 1980s, in this humorous and thought-provoking time travel story.

1981 is part of the anthology series, A Year in the Life. Each book revisits a different aspect of life in the 1980s, and each story can be enjoyed standalone.

Great concept and a good entertaining listen. I am a time travel junkie and it can be very hard to find good time travel books. The concept of representing every year of the 80's in a series makes this even better as I have fond memories of that time. I also like that these are a set in the UK. Being from the US you get a bit of a different perspective on the events and people described. Also learning all the British colloquialisms is enjoyable. I usually do not like series books because they never seem to end. Each of these stories has a defined end and the next one just holds on to the premise with new characters and situations. Give it a shot.

1981 is the 2nd of 3 book series by Jason Ayres. After learning that his father is dead and he’s disinherited, Nick Taylor wonders what else can happen. Then he is given a magic bracelet that he’s told will take him from the present day (2020) back to relive 1981. That year was the worse year of his life when his mother was killed and everything got worse. How can he prevent the plane crash when he’s only 10 years old?! A very poignant and touching story. The narration by Peter J Matthews is wonderful. His performance brings the story to life.

Outstanding!

This was a really good book. I enjoyed the trip back in time. A rather original storyline. Narration by Peter J Matthews was well done. I was given this book free for an honest review.
