What if your life was suddenly over and it wasn't even meant to happen? From the moment Benjamin May is hit by a school bus that appears from nowhere he senses something is amiss. When that same bus turns out to be driven by a Reaper who resembles the front of a heavy metal album things get considerably stranger.

As it becomes clear that his death was an unfathomable mistake, the race is on for Ben to appeal his death before the most important figures in the AfterLife and return to the land of the living before it's too late. However with people in high places with a lot to lose should he win, will Ben even make it back?

An original story concept, soft on execution [not a pun]

While the idea of escaping a predetermined death [Final Destination] or fighting your way back to the world of the living [The Crow] aren't new, the themes found in this story are a bit more heavy on the metal and altogether fresh. Adam Meehan provides a captivating collection of voices for the main characters and is the primary reason I made it to the end. The few human and formerly-human people we meet along the adventure are all likable enough, with individual quirks and mannerisms that even make them endearing, to a point. But there lacks compelling reasons to care about their outcomes other than to see how the tale ends, and if justice is served. For a story that features death, reapers, and an accidental killing the [intended or not] PG-13-ish language feels like a limiting factor at times.
