The Vampire the Masquerade Clan Novel Saga is a thirteen-volume masterpiece, presenting the war between the established Camarilla leadership and the growing power of the brutal Sabbat on the East Coast of the United States. Each novel is told from the perspective of one of the thirteen clans, intertwining with the others, and filling in missing pieces artfully as we follow battle after battle, intrigue after intrigue—and the appearance of a strange artifact that falls into the hands of a solitary Toreador sculptor.

Clan Novel Ventrue is the fifth in the series. War rages among the children of the night. The monstrous vampires of the Sabbat ravage the East Coast from Savannah to Washington, D.C. Camarilla princes who ruled for centuries are ashes on the wind, burning cities the only witnesses to their passing.

Elders of the Camarilla call on Jan Pieterzoon, Ventrue childe of privilege, to turn the tide of battle. To succeed in his task, he must navigate a minefield of shifting alliances, where tonight's co-conspirator is tomorrow's enemy. If Jan can survive his friends, he might just have a chance against the Sabbat.

This series is a monumental, 13-novel exploration of the forbidden world of the Kindred. What began in Clan Novel: Toreador continues here, and its ending will determine the fate of every human—and inhuman—being in the world.

there is one evocative moment in this entire book and it's when it reveals the ventrue Peterson's clan weakness, but even that was so him fisted you saw it coming and the writer is so poor at creating complex characters that the moment falls flat. worst of all, this book turned a previous fantastic character into a complete victim. in every moment possible, and in every encounter, Victoria Ash is played as stupid, obvious, and broken, which is something she wasn't at all even within the clutches of the Tzimisce. the author takes all of the body horror of her experiences and boils it down into a rape metaphor, but doesn't acknowledge her strength in escaping, and every other male is simping over her without any complexity in their feelings just because of her vampiric powers. instead of being subtle, she's vulgar, and this isn't played off as a change in her but rather reads as if the writer has never actually listened to a woman talk before.

Insult to injury, the voice performer, in an attempt to distinguish his narrative voice from the character dialogue, dulled his own voice to be so flat that it's hard to care about what's happening.

Terrible. Read a summary and skip it.
