About this listen

Trapped in a world of monsters and magic, survival is just the beginning.

When Evelyn moves to Monterey Bay for college, she expects her biggest challenges to be making new friends and surviving freshman year. But her life takes a dark and unexpected turn when she's abducted and thrust into a terrifying world of monsters, magic, and ancient secrets.

After awakening in an unfamiliar body and with a collar around her neck, Evelyn must use her wits, a positive attitude, and a spark of newfound magic to escape cultists, dodge undead horrors, and—with a bit of luck, find a way back to civilization. Unsure of who to trust and clinging to the hope of returning home, she must navigate a landscape where danger both physical and political lurks around every corner. What begins as a quest to survive becomes a journey of self-discovery, revealing a resilience she never knew she had.

Great listen and top notch narration.

I stumbled upon this genre, and I’m so glad this book was my intro!
Checked all the boxes of a good read. There is a nice pace to the book, witty banter, and easy to follow world building. At times, I found myself trying to predict what would happen next but alas I was left on a cliff hanger. Need book 2 please!!!

Good story

This story was really good I did enjoy the change of pace having a female kitsune MC. I can't wait for book 2

Great story brought to life by a talented narrator

I had read and loved this book on its initial release, but being a corporate slave I listen to a lot of audiobooks on my commute. This one is very well done, the characters really come to life and the narrator has a great variety of voices, characters, accents, and intonation. I am really enjoying it and will definitely relisten again in the future!

I loved this book

I loved this book. I am a very big fan of Litrpg and this story had me hooked from the outset. The author built a beautiful and cruel world that shows impressive depth. The characters are fun and relatable with both their excitement and sorrow. The performer did an excellent job with the reading, and made the whole book just that much more alive.

bad forced ending

I liked the book but I couldn’t accept the avoidable ending. I bet every single reader would have been suspicious, it came down to pure stupidity, that’s way too forced.

Mostly Great

I say mostly great since this could have been an easy five star book but I'll be honest, the fact that it was repeatedly stressed that the main characters should keep the details of their identities a secret coupled with how often they carelessly forgot this was super annoying. When you couple that with the fairly obvious stuff that happens at the end of the book, it really left a bad taste in my mouth despite the overall book being wonderful. I just really don't like it when books end in a bad note like that, even when it is obvious that it is intended to set up the next one.

Despite my gripes, though, I do still highly recommend this book and I think it is actually one of the better LitRPG books I have read. I loved the characters (although there are A LOT of names to keep straight) and the world was interesting enough. I hope the next book in the series is released soon.

As an aside, the narrator was excellent. I'll have to see if she has done any other books.

I rate this five mushrooms

Great story and genuinely had a great time listening to it. Many random funny moments that I loved. And we all know Sebastian The Brave is the real main character

ok

This is well written and reminds me of beneath the dragon eye moon and salvos. The book starts off good but I thought the ending where several chapters were devoted to attending a ball were a chore.

Damn

Okay, where to start here? I've had to go through this a few times because I am not sure on how to start this.

To start with, I suppose lets say that I liked how the main character started out. To not spoil, the main character manages to get out of incredible danger by the tip of her tail.
This is an isekai story mind you. But, its not a normal isekai.

Here the demons have more or less won with some holdouts of cities. They are in a bad way though, and while the main character does get stronger, the demons are stronger still. She has to push on with guile, wit and a bit of intellect to get anywhere. But it does follow a few tropes.

Now, I have personal caveats for a few things, but in this case? They don't matter in the long run. What matters is the book and how it stands.

The heroine in this book finds herself a sister. If not in blood, then in spirit, she finds herself friends, adventure, and she learns much about herself, and what it means to be what she is, and many more questions.
But she also learns harsh truths at the pay of others and herself. Lets leave it at that so I don't spoil.

She learns through betrayal that there are those that perhaps don't wish for the sun to come up the next day due to selfish reasons. She learns that this world, for all its fantasy come true, is far more dangerous than one would want, and will need to grow stronger for it.

She will have to find her own way, and I hope to see that come book 2.

I promised a review, and here you are! I hope this spoiler free (or as much as I hopefully could) gives insight to the book!
