At twenty-nine, Nora Cameron's life feels adrift, her days are spent working in her parents’ bakery, and her nights are spent alone watching Hallmark movies. She yearns for something beyond her predictable existence, though she has no idea what that might be. That is, until fate intervenes, and Nora is swept into an unforeseen adventure to Scotland.

Guided by her grandmother’s cherished photo album from the 1940s, which documents her time spent as a medic-nurse in Scotland during World War II, Nora stumbles upon a mysterious old bookstore in Edinburgh. There, amidst the smell of old books and shelves lined with relics of forgotten lore, Nora's eyes fall upon a peculiar little red book. As she delves into its pages, strange and unexplainable events unfold, including a sudden snowstorm that strands her in the Highlands with a handsome but surly journalist named Alistair.

Snowed in and at odds with one another, Nora and Alistair struggle to get along. With little else to do but tend the fire, Nora immerses herself in the red book’s tale of a young woman from centuries past, on a quest to save her grandmother and resist the pull she feels toward a dashing but aloof son of a Scottish Duke.

As the days pass, stranded in the cabin, Nora discovers a box of letters with an eerie connection to her grandmother’s past, uncovering a family secret buried deep in time. As the weather worsens and their supplies dwindle, bizarre events begin to escalate.

With Alistair’s help, Nora starts to unravel the mystery, but what she uncovers not only threatens to fracture her idea of reality but may place her and Alistair in mortal danger.

I haven’t finished the book yet, but I will, even though I find myself distracted by the narrators incorrect intonation contour. Her pause after a quote and then her raised tone for the commentary makes me wonder if the quote was complete or if there was more to follow. I had to get used to this weird rhythm and phrase breaks. She’s doing a great job, but I’m surprised no one pointed this out to her. Of course, I might be the only one who is bothered by it. But the story is fun so far and I’m intrigued by that.

A lovely written book with great narration. I love the storyline of a young woman finding herself and what brings her joy. Top it off with a hot Scott and I’m hooked! You’ll love this listen to the end for sure!

Honestly, the story was great. The start was a bit slow but once you get past the first couple of chapters it gets really good. It was a very sweet story and the ending twist was really unexpected. I smiled, laughed, squeal in delight and cried with the characters that I felt like I was in the book. Nora was definitely very relatable. I liked that she took the time to process her feelings and react in a normal way not just typical romance novel style.

The sad parts were very raw and emotional…I cried lol not what you want to do when you’re working and your coworkers are like “are you ok?!” lol I had to tell them it’s my book. The funny look I got but totally get it. 😂

Although the ending wraps up and you get a little sneak peak of their story…I do wish there was a bit more. Granted, maybe it is because in the previous two novels the stories are intertwined so you feel that you get to know what happens after the story ends. Well, maybe just one of them but the story expand and you get to know more of the universe. Lol wouldn’t complain if this book gets a book two 👀. Lol regardless, it was a great holiday read and can’t wait for the next book Jessica Dodge will create!!!!

Wow just wow!!! It’s a fantastic story!

A story of mystical books, bookstores, mysterious old ladies, finding oneself and tragic love spanning centuries. It was just what I needed. Thank you.

A beautiful and magical tale

If you’re into Hallmark movies, you would like this book. It was sappier & cheesier than I expected. The narrator was very good though.
