QUESTS · MERMAIDS · CURSES · SNAKES · PUZZLES · CREATURES · MAGIC

After breaking the curse of Len Nove’s kingdom, Sealyn, Queen of Elysium, focuses on rescuing her comrades, whom Stoltlanders imprisoned, and breaking Shunal’s curse.

On the quest, Sealyn and Jace face many battles, receiving injuries that could lead to death. They find themselves having to trust rebels and pirates while facing new enemies, including themselves. From high-energy chases through markets to solving puzzles in mazes, Sealyn is forced to choose between her life and others.

A new chapter unfolds as Elysium embarks on a new mission, with Princess Siany assuming the role of the Luxen School of Magic’s Headmaster. Elysians are increasingly discovering their magical abilities, but a sinister force has already infiltrated their kingdom. This threat forces Elysians to forge unlikely alliances with former foes: Dragons and Mer People.

Who can they trust?
Will Sealyn give into the darkness?
And who is Jace’s father?

Wow! The plot of the series is really starting to move fast! So much happened in this book! (I feel like I just listened to two books... but in a good way.) We got verification on who Jace's father is (I'm still very interested in how that plot thread develops... there's still a lot there), the sister's had a fight and made up (love to see the character development on Siany! Her struggles to find her place and purpose is very relatable), we had a married couple adventure (that cut short because... reasons), there's a daring rescue, a magic school, an attack from evil phoenixes, a labyrinth-esque magical trial... and so much more!

Honestly the magic system and the world building with the kingdoms and how the curses manifest gets more interesting with each passing book! Shunal's curse is especially shocking and sad, and seeing how far greed can take someone, and how tying your value to money and treaure hurts even the youngest children is heartbreaking. Sealyn taking on the weight of each curse and seeing her temptation and each new one being added making the burden heavier is such a beautiful picture of how Christ took on the curse of our sin, and really makes you think about the weight of his sacrifice.

The narration continues to be fantastic! The narrator does a fantastic job of bringing the charater's emotions out, and he's pleasent to listen too.

Content warnings for descriptive kissing (on par with book 1 and 2), self harm, and infertility stuggles.

This series just keeps getting better!
