A revealing new biography of Adolf Hitler that delves deeply into the psychological aspects of the story. The author draws on a wealth of knowledge about the figure and his era, referencing other biographies such as those by Marlis Steinert, Thomas Weber, Ian Kershaw, and Hitler’s friend August Kubizek, as well as various psychological and social psychology studies. These sources aim to answer enduring questions: What lies behind the Führer? What mechanisms made his appeal and rise to power possible? Why did a nation and its army allow themselves to be led by the fantasies of such a strange figure towards such immense destructiveness?

NOT MUCH SUBSTANCE

For a book that calls itself "A Psychological Biography" it offers barely more than a surface level discussion on Hitler's mental state. The author spends more time calling out other authors and confirming/arguing their points than establishing her own. While I added this book hoping to really get in to the nitty gritty of his psyche, it delivered pretty basic information with brief nods to entry level psychology.
