Evangeline Phillips isn’t exactly a Grinch, but being estranged from her parents means Christmas is just another day for her. But when Evie meets her new neighbor—her hot, kind, and blessed-with-the-sexiest-accent-Evie-has-ever-heard neighbor—she thinks it might be just the thing to help her get past the holiday season.

Annika Mayer isn’t really running away. But when there’s a job opening in the United States, it seems like the perfect time to leave Germany and start fresh, even if it’s only temporary. It’s just a pity that she’s missing out on the most important holiday: Christmas with her family. Fortunately, Annika’s cute new neighbor is exactly the distraction she needs.

As their friendship and flirtation builds, Evie and Annika decide on an American-German Christmas mesh-up—they’ll share their Christmas traditions and make it through the season together. And as they plan their “Merry Weihnachten,” that flirtation starts to build into something more. But with so much standing between them and forever, Evie and Annika realize they might not get their gift-wrapped happy ending after all.

The story is the sweetest kind of holiday fun but Abby’s narration of Annika made for a wonderful listen

Abby Craden’s German accent

I really liked this story, but if I'm being honest I could've done without the German accent. It just got annoying after a while. Abby Craden was awesome, as usual though.

Really liked it

EJ Noyes has nailed another sapphic book category. This holiday romance is what I expect from one of her books. Real characters with gifts and baggage. Excellent dialogue. They tackle challenges from the past while merging German and American holiday traditions. Light enough but not saccharine. Abby Craden does a wonderful job as always.

Excellent book.

Well written, enjoyable, easy to connect to, checks all the boxes for a holiday romcom.

I saw some discussion of the German accent in the comments before I bought. I wouldn't worry about it. I can't measure if it's a 'good' example of German accented English, but I think the problem is that you don't often have a POV character speaking (and thus narrating) in accented English and it was a bit weird to listen to at first. I quickly adapted and it became enjoyable. Don't let the discussion on that topic keep you from the book.

Fun, uplifting, perfect bit of holiday
