A chance at love might not be out of this world in this astronomically charming romantic comedy from the USA Today bestselling author of Love and Other Conspiracies.

Los Angeles social media influencer El Martin seems to have a picture-perfect life. But what El wants more than anything is to find something real to make her heart race in a way it hasn’t in years. She doesn’t expect that feeling to come from capturing footage of an unidentified flying . . . thing, much less from the charming Man in Black who keeps following her around.

Agent Carter Brody is trying his best to keep the Private Intelligence Sector afloat by dragging their hopelessly out-of-date office into this century, even though what he really wants to do is follow in his father’s footsteps by identifying and hiding extraterrestrial sightings. He gets his chance after being assigned to El’s case and is stopped in his tracks not only by her ingenuity and confidence but also by an unnerving coincidence—her sighting looks eerily like what Carter himself saw right before a family tragedy.

The deeper El and Carter fall into the mystery, the harder it is for them to ignore their growing chemistry as their own alien feelings become dangerously terrestrial.

Last 3rd got a little too 50 shades of grey and lost me. Not sure if I’ll be picking up any recommendations from kindle for a while.

Okay, this book was an unexpected delight. El and Carter’s whole vibe felt like someone tossed a rom-com into a soft paranormal mystery blender and somehow got the perfect consistency. Think X-Files energy but with significantly more flirting and people actually communicating like grown adults. Honestly? Refreshing.

What I loved most is how easy they are together—no forced drama, no overcooked tropes. Just two people who genuinely like each other and want the other to thrive. I will always show up for that.

🎧 Narration Check:
I originally picked this up purely because Iggy Toma was involved (I’m predictable, it’s fine). He’s fantastic here—playful, grounded, and just the right amount of weird for the story. Elizabeth Lamont matches him perfectly. Together, they make the whole thing feel effortlessly charming.

💬 Content Notes:
One thing I really appreciate is how upfront the author is about content warnings. Since this leans into an adventure/mystery plot, there are stakes and some tense moments. If you’re cool with a typical X-Files episode, you’ll be totally fine here. But the author clearly lays out the heavier elements for anyone who needs them—grief, past parental death, gun use, fights, car chases, adult language, etc.

Overall? This audiobook lands squarely in the “cozy but still exciting” category. Sweet romance, fun mystery, fantastic narration. Totally worth the listen.

Loved it, kept me engaged. Narrators did a great job. I would watch a movie of this if they brought to the big screen.

The author kicked this story into the next gear in comparison to her last book. The writing - both prose and narrative plot, have improved hugely. Even her character development! The main characters were relatable even though their jobs were clearly not. Their love timeline was short but it felt completely real based on the wild ride they were going on. Their behaviors, actions, and thoughts were aligned. The ending was GRIPPING.

There were still a few parts that felt Frankenstein-esque , words repeated too closely, small aspects that made me confused as to where body parts were. This is why it’s not a five star read.
The male narrator was not my favorite. I had to “restarted” the book three times to get through his chapter. The female narrator was excellent. I wish dual narration would have the male and female artists do the entire book as all male and female characters. I dislike when the character voices change because of the chapter. Both actors did a phenomenal job acting though, never did I feel like they were reading, even if I didn’t love the MMC voice (it did get better over time).

I cannot wait for this author to release more. I am a huge fan of these paranormal adjacent story lines. I am such a huge fan I would travel for a meet and greet for this author and get signed hard covers of both her story’s. Y’all need to jump on this band wagon asap. I shave a sneaking suspicion her next book will be a five star read.

This is the adorable story of El and Carter: a romance set in an X-files-ish milieu. As another review mentioned, this story is refreshing at least in part because it manages to steer clear of tired romance tropes. These characters just really like each other! And they support each other's personal growth and self discovery. It's great.

I was attracted to this book in the first place because Iggy Toma is one of the narrators, and I enjoyed his work on the Guild Codex: Warped series. He does a first-class job on this book as does Elizabeth Lamont.

Finally, it is becoming more and more common among romance authors to give content warnings (and also feature lists) for their books, and I love that! So I will end with a statement from the author that I found in the comments on Goodreads:

"... I want to be very transparent with the content warnings in this book. When I first set out to write [Love at First Sighting] and realized it'd have to have an X-Files-esque mystery to it, I knew if I wanted to pull it off, I had to commit to it and not shy away from the adventure elements. It's still a rom-com and I would say if you're okay with the average episode of The X-Files, you'll probably be fine with LAFS, too!

"CWs: Love at First Sighting is first and foremost a romantic comedy, but it also contains a high-stakes mystery with action/adventure elements including the past deaths of parents (off-page), grief, guns/gun violence, car accidents (mentioned), a car chase, hand-to-hand/fist-fighting violence, sex, drinking, smoking, and adult language. If you are sensitive to any of these, please read with care."
