The gods have been proven mortal and new heroes will arise as the battle continues in the sequel to Age of Myth—from the author of the Riyria Revelations and Riyria Chronicles series.

In Age of Myth, fantasy master Michael J. Sullivan launched audiences on an epic journey of magic and adventure, heroism and betrayal, love and loss. Now the thrilling saga continues as the human uprising is threatened by powerful enemies from without—and bitter rivalries from within.

Raithe, the God Killer, may have started the rebellion by killing a Fhrey, but long-standing enmities dividing the Rhunes make it all but impossible to unite against the common foe. And even if the clans can join forces, how will they defeat an enemy whose magical prowess renders them indistinguishable from gods?

The answer lies across the sea in a faraway land populated by a reclusive and dour race who feel nothing but disdain for both Fhrey and mankind. With time running out, Persephone leads the gifted young seer Suri, the Fhrey sorceress Arion, and a small band of misfits in a desperate search for aid—a quest that will take them into the darkest depths of Elan. There, an ancient adversary waits, as fearsome as it is deadly.

I had some real hard times suspending my disbelief of how the fuck no one ever invented a god damn bow and arrow when they have bronze, iron, and husbandry.

Technological progression is jarring

Michael J Sullivan creates remarkably charismatic characters. The dialouges are clever, witty, and ironic. Tim Gerard Reynolds' narration captures all of this seemlessy. Together the author and narrator deliver a remarkable experiece in fantasy literature that far exceeds the written word.

This phenomena is true of all their work together. It is what makes both Ryira series and now the First Empire series so irresistible.

In Age of Swords there are several storylines within the adventure. Various colonies of men and women are fleeing giants and other god like creatures. Self discovery, enlightenment, romance, war, tragedy and magic colour every scene.

Listen to Age of Swords. You will never regret it.

I loved this book and how it brought in so many side characters and stories while still maintaining a good overall cohesion. I also loved how it explains so many of the modern technological "discoveries" such as swords, bows, writing, etc, very clever. Can't wait for the next book!

Loved the book, can't wait for #3

The beginning was good, but it dragged a little in parts. Overall, very happy with the twists that brought me down and almost in tears due to the beautiful writing and surprising turns it takes.

great sequal
