In the shadows and flames, Primals will fall…

And from the blood and ash, new gods will rise.

What was dreamt.

Poppy was never meant to awaken, and the consequences are devastating and far-reaching, stirring ancient powers from their slumber and transforming Casteel and Kieran in ways even the Fates couldn’t have foreseen. But what that means is the least of their concerns. For now.

What was foreseen.

The Blood Crown has fallen, but what has risen is a far greater danger than they’ve ever faced. From flesh and fire, the Great Conspirator has returned to the mortal realm, and he wants only one thing. They must stop the true Primal of Death before he regains his strength, and it won’t be easy. Even weakened, his influence is undeniable. His power, unthinkable.

Has come to be.

While the future of the realms rests upon them, they won’t stand alone. The gods have awakened—each harboring their own blood-soaked secrets. But they must navigate an unbalanced realm, where every choice—past and present—has the potential to not only undo everything they’ve fought for but also destroy the very bonds that have Joined them together.

For the Harbinger and the Bringer of Death and Destruction has risen.

Usually I can see the plot coming (ADHD super powers) I DID NOT SEE ANY OF THAT. It also, absolutely wrecked me. Seriously I’m so emotional that my heart and throat are clenching. It takes a lot for me to get emotionally invested to the point I cry and grieve fictional characters…. this whole series has done that to me.

Well i’m wrecked

I had to sit with this for a bit before I can attempt a review. I can see where some can be disappointed. I can also understand why we needed to be lead down to its conclusion/cliffhanger. I can only say that if you love this world, reel in those expectations. With that said, I think what was off kilter is the pacing ? Maybe how the buildup was subdued ? Obviously the expectations most had for Cas, Poppy, and Kieran’s relationship vs the war against Kolis… It’s not want we wanted but the journey that needed to happen. Those three will find each other again. Book 7 is the final book and I have a feeling it’s gonna be… everything 🧡💚🩵

Off kilter but worth the journey

Well... I love FBAA and Flesh and Fire series but fell a little short on this one. The story was good not great but I am very to see that this book progressed the story. The worst one was just Cass's POV.

Now the narrators did great other than the new on who did Kieran..sorry! I had to speed him up just to many long pauses for no reason. I would have been happy with Tim Campbell or Stina Nielsen doing that last chapter. Had a good voice just missed the mark.

This book was long! I enjoy long books but I like to have the plot move along also. I quit ZA series because it was so much of the same thing over and over just to much filler. This book had a lot of fillers. I think about 30% maybe more was Poppy asleep still. I mean we had one whole book of that and now so much in this one. I did like plot that went with it in this book. There was no big surprise or oh wow when we got more info on who Poppy is. It was easy to figure out but still done good. I enjoy predictable plots when done well. It just dragged a little.

The main plot twist or action that has been coming for so many books and so many hours of reading/listening was cut short very short. I think so much could have been put into that. I was down to an hour on this book and couldn't see how anything could really happen but I was wrong it was about 30 minutes only 2 chapters. Then we didn't even get everything that happened we got Kerian giving a little info to his dad.

Spoilers

Poppy was taken to Iliseeum we did read or listen to how that really happened. Cass went on killing spree made a thrown out of Bones, got into it with Attase soooooo much happened and we know that because we had 10 minutes of Keiren telling his dad?

maybe we will get another Cass POV book? heck I don't know.

Then there was a service for the fallen characters we came to love and that was also glossed over by Keiren.. I know his chapter is like 30 minutes but 15 of it was him talking with Millie and Malac...

Soooooo glad I did the book but what's next and please don't make us wait almost 2 years again. Well longer to really progress the plot.

Last thing.... the fight with Cass and Keiran... I get Cass being upset but come on!! Poppy not saying anything about them being "off" it was like 3 different characters... well 2 Keiren was mostly the same. Not only that I believe the promise was made I like book 3.. whatever book Cass was taken and Poppy and Keiran went to save him. Cass was NOT even around for that! At the time Poppy was worried about losing it because she would do anything to save Cass. They rescued him and she didn't really have any power problems after that until this book. Maybe I am not remembering correctly? But I think I am. I loved the relationship the three of them had until this book it was just was not the norm for them.

fell a little short on this one.

This was maybe 30 hours of disappointment and 10 hours of some good. I am so upset about thw story line. this could have ended in one book.
why does there need to be another. I'm not even sure I'll read the next and I've never had that opinion before

what the heck happened?

I was really excited for this book. I have to say I'm disappointed. I wanted more story, more growth of the friendship between Poppy, Casteel, and Kieran. I was hoping for a love interest for Kieran, but I felt like his character was an after thought. Additionally, Casteel was written differently. In previous books he was over protective but still encouraging and supportive, which helped to balance his character.
I would say overall, I'm still excited to read the next book because of the plot twist.

Disappointing but Want to know what's next!
