The Planetary Republic and Star League have settled their differences. Treaties are signed, trade is restored. But spies and diplomatic turmoil lead to a high-tech cold war of epic proportions.

Ex Space Marine Gina Wilcox finds herself in a law enforcement career after the war, but life can be just as dangerous on the streets as the battlefield.

Sleeper cells activate, assassinating government officials. Crime syndicates flourish. And a certain high-tech android has been stolen by the League, spirited off world for unknown purposes.

Into this milieu a band of Marine outcasts join the fight. They spent more time in the brig than on the battlefield, yet racked up admirable wartime kill ratios. These renegades are quietly recruited by Republican Naval Intelligence to lead black ops against the League.

Gina Wilcox will join their leader Commander Hamilton Wolf in a risky interstellar quest to retrieve an android who doesn’t even realize she’s not human. The fate of two civilizations hangs in the balance . . .

I absolutely enjoyed the story, I thought it a great continuation and well written. With tons of action, twists and turns. That being said, and knowing it’s a free listen, the AI voice and narration is absolutely atrocious. Like listening to a 1980s C rated STVHS train wreck. While funny to listen to the AI’s attempts at emoting, the inconsistent pronunciation of nouns did make the story confusing at times. All in all I am pleased with the time I spent listening and the storyline.

Enjoyable story, Comically terrible narration…

I really don’t know if there is a story within the half of this series I put up with before stopping. There is a lot of shooting and killing over and over which gets pretty boring and repetitive, but there could be a story still. But I can’t tell, because the AI voice, while sufficient most of the time, completely throws off the narrative over and over again in between the ok parts. I didn’t want to finish listening and felt a sense of relief when I decided to stop, after getting almost halfway through. No criticism for trying an AI voice, I mean someday it may actually work. But it doesn’t work yet.

Also, this book was free to me with audible plus. I’m not upset about paying for it and getting what I got. And… If human voices redid the book I’d try it again.

The very weird tone of voice in some parts

I didn’t think I would, but, toopa toopa toop is too funny. Like a song stuck in my mind, I find myself thinking toopa toopa. Each blaster or grenade has its own sound, so there’s plenty of choices for a favorite. Sometimes the cadence or inflection is funny, but the story is good - a little silliness just adds to it.

I love the virtual voice..

The story line was ok but the robot narration was terrible and distracted from the story. Pronunciation of many words were so wrong I wasn’t of intent. It also changed how it pronounced words. Plus inflection was terrible. Good book to fall asleep to since voice droned on and on.

Robot narrator terrible

the story has a great cadence and moved well. the AI Reader sux, timing and syntax errors, inconsistent and mostly wrong pronunciation, and no proper inflection with the storytelling. I expect better from this Author.

AI Reader sux, Story is Awesome!
