magic the gathering meets LitRPG in this epic fantasy story! a huge cast of great characters.

I can't wait for book 2

amazing

I truly enjoyed almost every element of this book, from the fast-paced plot to the engaging characters and the solid narration. It has all the elements of a great LitRPG series.

My single, but significant, issue was with the Trading Card element of the magic system. The idea of characters relying on a random deck of cards in a real, life-or-death battle was a game mechanic that repeatedly broke my immersion in the story. I found myself pulled out of the narrative every time a battle hinged on a lucky draw instead of skill or strategy.

Because this specific element is central to the magic system, I have decided not to continue with the next book in the series.

However, if you are a fan of trading card games or enjoy a magic system based on this type of mechanic, you will likely find a lot to love here, as all the other elements of the story were great.

Trading Card Magic System Detracted from the Story

Nothing particularly wrong with story, and maybe it’s just the narration, but it was just boring. MC was boring, “suspenseful” parts were boring, fights were boring, etc. I made it a few hours (close to half way) before stopping.
