Thou Son's Keeper takes place in the late 1800’s during a time when violence and brutality were considered at their worse. Donovan is a farmer married to Sidney, the woman of his dreams. They have one child together, a son, Sage. For a time their life is full of joy and bliss as Donavon enjoys and supports his family from the spoils of his land. Eventually, his life turns upside down when he and his family are brutalized by 5 outlaws. The story begins 7 years later when Donovan tracks the last of the 5 outlaws to a small town, where he confronts the man in a saloon and kills him.

Though Donovan is on the alert from the lawmen and prior enemies who pursue him, he is intent on returning to his son Sage. Upon his return, he is disheartened to find that his son is merely a broken down boy, afraid even to speak in his own voice. Donovan vows to end the cycle of violence. Yet, in his impatience with the local injustices, he seems to find himself in one violent situation after another, including mounting tension with the corrupt town sheriff and his narcissistic brother.

This is a well written, fun and engaging story with a great cast of enduring characters. The narration is one of the best I've ever heard on Audible. sometimes the sound effects are a bit too much and too loud, and they occasionally break immersion. Even with that, it's still a great black western.
