In this revelatory biography of one of Canada's most internationally celebrated writers, Mary Henley Rubio looks far beyond Montgomery's own published journals and draws on years of primary research and interviews, as well as a wealth of previously undiscovered material. The result is an account of a fascinating life that is certain to surprise.

Her professional accomplishments were exceptional, and on the surface her family life seemed picture-perfect; yet Montgomery endured intense hardship, including legal fights with her publisher, shattering experiences with motherhood and as a wife to a deeply troubled man, not to mention the anguish of her own mental instability.

This comprehensive account of Montgomery's life, all set in rich social context, has taken its place as the definitive biography of this Canadian literary icon.

This is by far the most detailed and fair biography of LM Montgomery that i have read. The author of the biography is one of the leading experts on all things Maud. My understanding is there is a TV show in the works based on this book.

Incredibly detailed and well researched.

I began listening because I loved Anne of Green Gables so much, and the early chapters did show parallels. While this LM Montgomery biography is both exhaustive and exhausting, it thoroughly demonstrates the bias, prejudice and inequitable treatment of women, inadequate medical acuity and the staggering affects these could have on even the strongest of women during this era. I was just determined to finish the book despite a lack of any compelling reason. Be prepared. It’s long and drawn out. The narration sounds as though it’s produced from AI, but apparently not so.

Sadly, I finished this title.

Well-researched biography. Maud was brilliant and her own worst enemy. She brought happiness to so many. This book answered many unanswered questions. It seems like Ewan was a nice person but Chester was very bad and Stuart was caught in the middle. Fascinating details about a fascinating life.

A Great Book!

I hate the performance and can’t listen to the book. It’s awful. The performer reads like a robot.

The performance is terrible
