Really well written and the narration is great. Fascinating, insightful, funny, scary, sad, wise. I finished it in two days! I can’t recommend it enough.

Good book

Although it started out slow with the “poor Native American” narrative, it was a good and fair account of the times. I’ve watched the show, this book does it better.

Truth, unusual in history. A tribute to the good, the bad, and the ugly that helped form our country. Thank you for this.

A modern classic

This is classic Cozzens—engaging (and often hilarious) quotes from primary historical sources, balanced and insightful analysis, and an accessible narrative style—all brought to life by Bramhall’s wonderful narration (which nails the voices of the old miners and saloon keepers). In short, “Three cheers and a tiger!”

Good book if you watched series of Deadwood the book is different. If you like Western movies novels and Western History you will like the book. So the recommend the book.
