Demons on the loose. Ritual murders. An ancient vampire breathing down her neck.

Some days Max just doesn't know where to start. The problems facing her city are piling up, and there seems no end or solution in sight.

Max's job used to be dealing with supernatural creatures. Now she's got to tackle demons from the underworld who are far more powerful than anything she's come across before, and who seem intent on bringing an end to the daylight world.

Part of Max would love to sit this one out. Let someone else save the world for a change. But was it ever really a choice?

Chosen is the fifth and final book in The Grey Gates. If you like your fantasy mixed with a bit of mystery, a bit of magic, and a heroine who can hold her own, you'll love this new series by Vanessa Nelson.

not sure the ending is perfect. is sort of open for more information regarding their world. but is as happy an ending as the main character can have. the world building is good. character growth is there...but it feels as if she is still isolating from her life in a way. i would like to see the Order itself disintegrate in its own self importance. i can also understand why her parents left her at the orphanage...in a way, it protected her, very little. i just don't feel as if her bio parents learned their lesson. but it is still an appropriate ending, and realistic. nothing is perfect, not even Gods. or celestial beings.

Main character's lack of self sacrifice is perfect.

It was thrilling with so many twists and turns and yet all the characters and loose ends were pulled together perfectly. I really enjoyed the story. It was incredibly unique and the world building was fantastic. The narrator was perfect and made it feel like I was right there along with Max. It was really well written and I loved the ending. I wish this wasn’t the last book but overall 10/10 for the series. Would absolutely recommend!
