Very good for the most part with some unneeded ideology

Great story overall with good characters. One of these characters has some unnecessary Western gender ideology weaved in via the appropriation of real-world indigenous spiritual roles, such as two-spirited religious leaders.

A captivating deeper look that demands a follow up

A full, compelling story that deepens our love and understanding of the characters with a notably evil villain whose gravitas elicits fear we haven't seen since being introduced to blood bending in the television series.

Interesting tension and POV changes at the jump provides for great release later as we clear up misunderstanding and get to business saving the day. We absolutely need to see a follow up to this book and see mastery of water and earth bending and especially the adventure alluded to in the very sweet and also rather revealing epilogue.

Roku and Gyatso deserve another adventure

I loved the continuity between Roku’s previous story and Aang’s cannon in ATLA. Roku’s journey is different from the other previous Avatars but still enthralling with more fun world building. As always, the narration is fantastic.

Loved It

I loved the continuation of Roku's journey this time in the Northern Water Tribe, the deepening friendship between the young Avatar and the airbending monk as well as the new waterbenders we meet.

The dumbest Avatar

This was a good story, should probably be a trilogy. my only issue is how unbelievably stupid Roku is and how now after these stories cross centuries the world never learn that courpt people sit at the top
