They pissed off the wrong soldier...

Brent Parthet just wanted to be left alone. A deadly supercommando in the Southwind War, Brent had retired a hero to a wildlife preserve as far from civilization as possible to enjoy the simple life with his wife and young son.

But when one of the Southwind, the massive, genetically-engineered slaves who'd rebelled against their human masters, shows up at Brent's door, asking for help from an old enemy, Brent will find out that the war isn't really over. And he may have been fighting for the wrong side.

At its core there is a great truth in this book. Wars are started by sneaky little cretin funneling money around and whispering in the ears of corrupt leaders. The innocent, the young, always pay. I do like the main character, having a good mix of intelligence, toughness, coolness, and strategy for a book of this type. Really enjoyed it!

Great adventure, enticing Sci-Fi elements, good characters

The story has just enough turns to keep it moving along. worth a listen for some military sci-fi.

I haven't listened to many books from this narrator so it took a chapter or two to get accustomed to his style but I was on board by the end.

Entertaining

Everything I expect from a Partlow/Brown mash-up. These guys are great together. I've followed Partlow since Drop Trooper, and he never disappoints. Here's to another killer series!

Great job all around, author and narrator. The sci-fi setting is MilSF with an interesting twist around memory storage and transhumanism advancements. I enjoyed the characters, even with the crass attitude, and found them endearing to the end. I look forward to the next book!

Fun sci-fi

Rick Partlow has a way of running his characters through an absolute meat grinder to get them from where they start to where they need to be, and this story is no exception.
The world building comes at you fast, but is integrated into the story in very compelling ways as opposed to infodumps.
The tech levels are rule of cool meets practical, and the characters are well developed and unique.
as always, Garret Michael Brown does a fantastic job bringing Partlow's characters to life, giving his own special spin to the dialogue and action sequences, which are well written, and fit the story well.
I love that the resolution brings us to a larger story, and look forward to the next installment!

Thrilling Start to another Partlow Classic
