Fascinating characters, true adventure

While somewhat epic in scope, this story is essentially a family story. It’s full of sweet, passionate romance and abiding love as the characters wrestle with sin and forgiveness, fear and faith. While it’s Meg and Davis’s story, Adam and Arilee and even Brax are seamlessly woven in. This book is rich and satisfying and I’m loathe to leave its pages.

Excellent historical fiction and narration

Leigh Foster is an excellent narrator who did a fantastic job with distinctive character voices. You really feel like you are immersed in the story and living life with the characters. Jennifer Q Hunt is amazing at writing dialogue and showing you what is happening rather than just telling you
through her skillful use of words. Her research shows in the historical details of her books and she includes wonderful author notes about that research at the end of her stories. She does not shy away from difficult issues during 1925 in the South. Most importantly, she includes elements of faith and how God is at work in the characters’ lives through her powerful themes of redemption and forgiveness. I love that this story takes place over a short period of time, one year. And also that it picks up shortly after where book one leaves off. Now I can’t wait to book 3! What an absolute gem of a story!

The depth of historical accuracy, intriguing family saga, and beautiful redeeming faith in the lives of the Rutledge family is so powerful and had me almost in tears of joy and on the edge of my seat multiple times. This book was an absolute delight. Go listen!

Highly Recommended

I love this series! The first book was amazing so when I got the chance to listen to this one, I jumped on it and boy, was I not disappointed! It is a well-researched (a high compliment from a former history major!) and engaging family saga. I love sitting with the characters and the places they go. So very well done and can't wait to finish the series! Highly recommended!

Excellent story and writing

This author does a great job of making you dislike a character, but then empathize and fall in love with the character. All her characters are so well written with flaws and personality that make me feel like I could meet them in real life.
