Two leading public intellectuals and dear friends—one progressive, one conservative—explore What is Truth? and Why Does Truth Matter?

In Truth Matters, Cornel West and Robert P. George address a range of social issues on which Americans today are bitterly divided. Their book models robust intellectual engagement and civil discourse as they explore vital questions surrounding the idea of truth and its foundational role in our lives. Along the way, they reflect on social conditions—such as respect for freedom of speech—that must be established and maintained if truth is to be seriously pursued. They also explore the virtues—such as intellectual humility and courage—that must be acquired and practiced if we frail, fallible, fallen human beings are to be determined truth seekers and bold truth speakers.

I attended a Classic Learning Test event in Annapolis where Robert George and Cornell West were the keynote speakers. They discussed this new book. The event was amazing, so I ordered the audio book. I’m currently on my second listen. If I can absorb the wisdom ….. if all of America could absorb the generosity and thoughtfulness of this friendship - we would be in a place of expectent healing and hope.

More humans like these 2 please!

This is indeed a timely conversation for Americans to be having after the killing of a prominent conservative voice. The political vitriol and blaming have become truly frightening.
This approach to public discourse should be required reading for ALL freshman politicians and definitely continuing education for most of the geriatric reps in both parties.
Indeed, this book came highly recommended from an 83 year old who has her own podcast!!

Skills we sorely need! Humility and Truth Seeking
