Great character development

It was hard to listen to this story because the main character was so messed up, continually destroying himself. Because of the author, I knew he pull it together at the end so I kept on listening. I love Catherine Ryan Hyde, but I couldn’t give this a 5 star rating when I had to make myself keep listening. I’m probably somewhat of a wimp.

Life lessons

It was raw at times. Maybe too close to the bone, but told life lessons in a powerful way.
It covered issues that some struggle with and never address.

Empathy & forgiveness

A good reminder, Cathrine is so good at doing this in unexpected ways. Brings the reader into the lives of people and situations with insight and hope

Disappointing on all fronts

I usually love Catherine Ryan Hyde books, but this one falls far short. The main characters are unlikable, and I never made any connection with them. To make matters worse, the narrator is terrible. DNF for me.

Forgiveness

The book follows a man's life. His father was abusive and it affected his whole life. The story line wends forgiveness and decency into a crazy cast of characters.
It is a satisfying end.
