I saved him from death, but it’s his touch that might destroy me.

I find him bleeding in the fields, half-conscious and devastatingly handsome, with broad shoulders, a sinful mouth, and eyes that strip the truth from me.

I should leave him.
Instead, I hide him in a cottage and become the only woman he remembers.

Every touch sparks.
Every glance burns.
And when we lie beneath the stars, his fingers grazing mine, I swear the night itself holds its breath.

My reputation shatters.
My parents rage.
London—and a husband I don’t want—loom over me like a sentence.

So when he murmurs that he loves me, I’m ready to elope before sunrise.

But he disappears.
Gone.
No warning. No kiss. No goodbye.

They say he used me.

But the truth terrifies me more,
because if I ever find him again,
I already know I won’t be able to stay away.

The story was well written, it kept your attention & wasn’t the same enemy to love story. The characters didn’t suddenly change to loving, trusting partners. They remained the same distrustful & aristocratic people.

Evangeline and Sebastian’s roller coaster love story kept my interest and entertained me for the most part. It was more dramatic than other stories like it I have read and possibly geared toward teens. Still, I found it enjoyable enough. The AI reader detracted from the story as it didn’t pause when a different character started speaking, there were some mispronunciations of words, and one important chapter in the Audible version I listened to was moved out of place and read just before the epilogue!
