Jason Dalton ran a kill squad for the US army. He was a legend who terminated cartel players and slipped away undetected.
But that ended when his squad's communications got hacked and the cartel butchered one of his men. To protect Lieutenant Dalton's family, army intelligence arranged to fake his death, and a new identity was supplied. Now Dalton is a private investigator in LA, where he keeps tabs on his widow and waits for the cartel to come for her.
Together with a computer nerd, Dalton keeps his head down by taking low level cases like missing persons and insurance fraud. But all that changes when a wealthy young widow finds a map to the greatest treasure ever assembled. Suddenly Vatican soldiers are breaking into her home and demanding she turn over Vatican property—the map. Israeli commandos assault her. The FBI Art Theft unit threatens her.
Dalton barges in to help the young woman. But he can't help but wonder if the case is a cleaver trap designed to draw him out of hiding. Well, there's only one way to find out. Besides, he's tired of playing dead.
Fans of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, Lee Child's Jack Reacher, Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp, and Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne will enjoy this mystery thriller.
