I really like this author. I listen to these type of collections regularly. .I thought I listened to them all.
I was pleasantly surprised to find this authors contributions to the genre.

My only critique is that there are some that may need a bit more research. I only say that because I have listened to so many of these monsters biographies, often through the lenses of multiple authors, that I feel I can make that statement confidently.

This title is the thumbnail version of multiple true crime cases, with a dusting of factual elements and a significant helping of Logan’s political and social biases. This is not a factual non fiction reporting of these cases. Instead it contains significant helpings of Logan’s opinions, not supported by factual evidence. It’s as if this work is based solely what he was able to glean from a visit to Wikipedia. This becomes abundantly clear if you’ve read any works covering the cases cited by Logan. This is where his work really tanks. Either by ignorance or deliberate intent he fails to cite significant case facts to skew the narrative toward his particular diatribe or social commentary.
Overall the collection leaves a lot to be desired.

Typical Logan Carter.

While there were indeed several “truly twisted crimes” in the mix, a great number of these cases were not crimes at all but rather just mysteries. “Macabre Tales” might have been a more apt title, especially since the author is very enamored of the word “macabre”, as another reviewer noted.

He is also very enamored of his own vocabulary and the overblown prose was extremely tedious at times. There is a great deal of extraneous “blah blah blah” serving as filler. A more succinct journalistic style would have been preferable.

That being said, many of the cases were interesting, even if I had already read about some of them. The Virtual Voice robot narrator was acceptable- not the worst I’ve heard, though it had the usual flat inflections and the strange tendency to drop the “s” every time the word “leads” was used.

Summary- OK overall. Not great, but interesting enough to finish. I’m glad it was a freebie.

The title is a misnomer

Each chapter uses repetitive phrases and statements. Even the story in each chapter repeats the same phrases over and over.

Was this book written by AI. It’s amateur at best and the AI narration makes it all that more intolerable.
