In an era when most Americans struggled to keep a roof over their heads and food in their bellies, those who could still afford it spent a week of indulgence aboard the Morro Castle, a luxury liner that sailed from New York Harbor to Havana, Cuba. Aboard ship the Depression and Prohibition were forgotten. Food and liquor flowed freely. And the ongoing party started the moment she set sail and didn’t end until seven days later when she docked back in the Harbor. That was until fire ravaged her and destroyed it all.
