BOOK ONE OF THE ILLBORN SAGA

Long ago, The Lord Aiduel emerged from the deserts of the Holy Land, possessed with divine powers. He used these to forcibly unite the peoples of Angall, before His ascension to heaven. Over eight hundred years later, in a medieval world which is threatened by war and religious persecution, four young men and women begin to develop supernatural abilities. These forbidden and secret powers will shatter the lives that they have known, and will force each of them to confront the mystery of the ethereal Gate which haunts their dreams. What does the dream mean, and how is it connected to their burgeoning abilities? As they experience conflict, love, lust and betrayal, in lands which are being overtaken by war, they must try to stay ahead of and to survive the sinister forces which are now pursuing them. For they are being hunted…

Illborn is Daniel T. Jackson’s powerful and gritty debut novel, and is the thrilling opening chapter in the epic fantasy story of The Illborn Saga.

Daniel T. Jackson has created an intriguing world with religion and politics driving the central focus of the story through four unique and distinct POV characters who all have magical powers and appear to be chosen by god for some purpose that is not yet clear.

Of the four characters, there are two males and two females and each POV gives us information about the world and what we can possibly expect to happen in the future. Both of the male characters and one of the female characters have redeeming qualities and are likable while one of the female characters seems to have nothing but bad in her life and responds to the world by just trying to survive. Her choices seem selfish at times, but fit her character nicely.

There were times in this story when I was reminded of John Gwynne’s The Faithful and the Fallen and other times when it felt Tolkien-esque. Mr. Jackson is a very good writer and I look forward to continuing this series.

Furthermore, I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Nathaniel Priestly, who does an outstanding job with each voice and each POV character. The author obviously worked very closely with Mr. Priestly in creating the audiobook and I am greatly looking forward to listening the rest of the series. Hopefully, book two will be released soon.

Highly recommended for fans of classic epic fantasy.

An Epic Fantasy, character driven tour deforce! I loved this book so much. That Prologue sucked me right into what this was going to be. It was so much more and I blew through the audio book relatively quickly. It's a 22hr 5 min book on Audible and worth every minute of it. I really enjoy the multiple POV's but seemed to gravitate more to Corin's part of the story. Not to say I didn't appreciate the others but I was more invested in Corin and Agbeth's story. I'm not seeing the audio version of the other 2 books yet so I'm going to wait for them before moving on. I just really enjoy listening to this type of novel.
HIGLY RECOMMEND!!
