The London Borough of Hackney is run by the crime syndicate Bai Ze. One night an expensive horse carriage arrives at their headquarters. This is a surprisingly unique plot line. The narration is wonderful. The story , well , I loved it!

I love the steam punkish world that exists only in these books. And the narrator is excellent. Having grown up on the original Sherlock Holmes stories, these are a terrific next installment
