Successful artist Olwen Pritchard returns to the village where she grew up. and where her family home has recently been sold following the death of her parents. Something is compelling her to make this journey where the ghosts of her childhood take shape guided by her eight-year-old alter ego. Olwen's life, growing up in the nineteen fifties in a small welsh village, is examined through the eyes of the child during the year following her eighth birthday. Tentacles from the past reach into the present as alongside the story of the child, are the older woman’s nostalgic and poignant footnotes giving an insight into the future. The structural development of this novel is one of growth and understanding for both adult and child. Although there is a central theme, which runs throughout, each section is separated by the adult's point of view making it possible for the reader to rnjoy small chunks hopefully finding that the experience is all the more enriching by consuming the whole.
