Hook. The most infamous pirate captain in literature. Who was he really? How did he come to be the captain of the brigantine Jolly Roger? Why did he claim the name of ‘Hook’ to replace the name he had been born with? What drove a student from one of England’s most prestigious schools to seek his fame and fortune as the supreme pirate of the Spanish Main? Sir James Barrie gave us hints about the extraordinary James Hook that only teased at answering these questions and many others. The answer to those many questions is not a tale just for children. From the dives of Tortuga to the sea-lanes of the Caribbean, from a Spanish fortress protecting a fortune in gold and jewels to an island of magic and wonder that can never be found on any map, the former bosun to Blackbeard follows a trail of blood and treasure in his quest to make his name as the most fearsome pirate ever to sail the Seven Seas. On his voyage, Hook builds his crew. The Irish bosun Smee, pleasant and lethal. Delicate-mannered Starkey, who murdered in dainty fashion. The handsome Italian Cecco, tattooed Bill Jukes and the deformed Noodler whose twisted arms made him deadly in a fight. And there was also the boy Tuck, an orphan of the sea who had no memory of his past and who was the focus of a strange magic that defied logic. With sword and pistol in his two strong hands, James Hook strides through battles at sea, treachery ashore and braves the dangerous of an island of magical impossibilities alone in his deliberate quest for infamy. I was pleasantly surprised by the AI narration but obviously it didn't compare to having a real reader. I loved the story it was very true to Peter Pan, I'm excited to start the next one

Feels like it belongs with the classic Peter Pan
