Tales of hunting Africa in the old days. I was 2 years old when this was written, I read it when I was 14 the first time. Loved it even more this time.

A timeless adventure story written beautifully

Robert Ruark holds legendary status among those who pursue life in the wild while enjoying its bounty. The author illuminates the African landscape with colorful descriptions while making you feel like you are walking with the native people and staring down an elephant, rhino, or lion. His detailed “romancing” of the magnificent Kudu is captivating while his respectful frankness about Cape Buffalo will bring a broad smile from those who have been there and a “I’ve gotta go” from the daring novice. Ruark has done more than tell a story about “once upon a time” in Africa”. He reaches into your heart and soul, and toys with your imagination, creating a longing to be there to see for yourself.

Is it the Africa of a new inexperienced hunter or of a super sniper?
Is he working together with his wife, or is she a bumbling idiot?
Does he love the native population or are they simple and niave?

Put off for too long

Read his stories of growing up in NC, but skipped this as I’ve never really had an interest in safaris. Turned out to be an entertaining and engrossing listen.
