With his niece Cassie still reeling from a personal tragedy, Jake Moriarty takes her on a cross country trip. Their destination, his late mother’s hometown, Acacia Grove, South Carolina. It’s a good plan. Miles and miles of road with little else to do but talk, relax and enjoy the scenery and discover his roots in this all-American small town, complete with Southern charm and friendly citizens. Just what Cassie needs to recover from her great grief. What could possibly go wrong?

They soon discover that just below the surface of apparent calm and civility lurks a monstrous evil that will turn the Journey Home into a journey straight to the bowels of hell itself. As with any life-threatening disease, this evil must be cut out at the source. But where do you start when the evil is so intertwined with the good?

Jake must fight for his life and the lives of Acacia Grove residents while his close circle of friends and family risk everything to save those who have nothing.
