" Accents play a key role in this historical romance, and narrator Will Watt is masterful in delivering them...Watt effortlessly inhabits Titus and Nico's perspectives...[making] for a delightful listen." — Kirkus (Earphones Award Winner)

Bridgerton
meets The Goldfinch in How to Fake It in Society, a stunning queer romance by rising genre star KJ Charles.

It is 1821 and Nicolas-Marc, Comte de Valois de La Motte is making a splash in London Society. The son of Jeanne de Valois de La Motte, infamous for stealing a priceless diamond necklace meant for Marie Antoinette, Nico hopes to restore his wronged mother's reputation, if only he can raise the funds. But he must operate with great secrecy, because the Bourbon dynasty murdered his mother, and he fears for his life.

At least, that's what he tells Titus Pilcrow. Titus was a simple shopkeeper, making and selling artists' paints, when he found himself suddenly married to an immensely wealthy woman who wanted to disinherit her nephew on her deathbed. As word spreads of his fortune, Titus finds himself a target of every scammer and beggar in London...including one Nicolas-Marc, Comte de Valois de La Motte.

Nico is on his last legs, out of money, and on the run from some terrifying gangsters. When Titus offers Nico a space in his household, it's the perfect chance for him to exploit London's newest golden purse--until he falls in love with the man he needs to cheat. Still, Nico is sure they can have a happy ending together. If he can just find his way out of his own web of lies.

This is the first collaboration of Will M Watt and the author KJ Charles and it should not be the last! Both are at the top of their game in their respective postions and it’s a surprise this pairing didn’t happen sooner! KJ writes the most well rounded, character driven, historical MM romance fiction; and Will performs each characters, and their respective emotions and personality, with his usual deftness. I hope this is just the beginning of more paired works from these two!

The Author and Narrator are Fantastic Pairing

KJ Charles is a master of love and tragic backgrounds and perfectly-strong-gentleman-in-distress being saved by his beloved, also-perfectly-strong gentleman.
Will Watt is always a great listen, and is a perfect match for this story.

Absolutely lovely

This book comes together so fabulously. Both main characters introductory chapters were so deeply charming from the start, their chemistry was delightful. I was dreading the third act from the first, although distracted by how perfectly matched the main characters were. Rarely is it so thrilling to zoom out to see a perfect house of cards in the final moments. As soon as I finished, I had to start again to see it all come together, a second time. KJ Charles doesn’t miss, but this is a spectacular feat. The narrator is also deeply charming.

I had to start it over, immediately.

I have long and enjoyed this gifted writer. I continue to be surprised and impressed with the way they make impossible situations believable, twist them in unpredictable ways, and resolve them in ways that are both revealing and inevitable. More, please!
