Outstanding!

This series gets better with each book! I highly recommend them if you like the TV show Miss Scarlet or books that are similar to it.
I especially like this series because each book has one mystery, but there are overarching mysteries and storylines (romantic and nonromantic) that continue from book to book.
I recommend The Gravesend Murder and the entire series!

Another Burgeoning Romance

Mystery is gentle but good. Author does a great job with the protagonist’s relationship. The cozy and privileged setting is satisfying!

Absolutely insipid and immature

"It's been a tiring day," said Henry. Dear reader, your day will be tiring, too, if you suffer through this title as I did. So poorly written, so melodramatic! Every emotion was exaggerated and nauseating. Also very formulaic. The heroine's inner monologue obsesses again and again on the main themes- how hard her life has been since her husband died, how guilty she feels that she hasn't gotten justice for him, how comforting the inspector is, etc. Surprise, surprise, detective feels the same!- guilt for not having solved the case, how lonely his life has been, how he wishes he could confess his feelings, etc. Sometimes a good narrator can make up for weak writing, but in this case, it just made it worse- the heroine sounded breathy, dimwitted, and spineless. Very little vocal distinction between characters- it was hard to tell if there were separate people at one point. Really disappointing. This seemed like a book for young adults. Never listening to this author again.
