Telekfilm’s horror movie survey continues with this fifth installment, including 35 reviews of horror films that begin with the letters E, F and G. Here we have a towering bad movie colossuses in Exorcist II: The Heretic, which will exhaust you with the shocking depth and scope of its awfulness, and truly deserves a special place of its own because… it simply cannot be believed. Then there’s major studio release dreck like Kenneth Branagh’s Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, which at least has ideas, it’s just that all the ideas are bad and the whole thing goes disastrously wrong.

There are some “bad” movie gems that may not win awards but will sure show you a good time, like the delightful Ghost in the Machine, Grizzly, Funeral Home and The Forest. There are also series like the Evil Dead films and the Friday the 13th series, especially its 8th entry, the super-fun Jason Takes Manhattan.

But there are also a few brilliant and wonderful movies in here as well, like David Cronenberg’s version of The Fly, and also the wonderfully evocative Eyes Without a Face.

There are irreverent and funny film reviews. There are knowledgeable and insightful film reviews. But few writers combine both while looking at everything from cult films to mainstream releases in reviews as fun to read as watching the movies themselves.
