From USA Today bestselling author Claudia Burgoa comes a small-town, forced-proximity romance with a grumpy, single dad, a woman on the run, and a stalker who won’t let her go...

After witnessing a crime, I ran.

For three years, I’ve hid from everyone.

I abandoned Birchwoods Spring, my home, my plans, and the life I planned to build.

I told myself it was the only way to stay safe.

But when my grandmother falls ill, I have no choice but to come back—even if it means confronting the past I tried to escape.

The moment I step onto my land, I feel it. The unease creeping in. The prickle at the back of my neck.

Someone’s been here. Watching. Waiting.

They know I’m back.
And they want me to know it, too.

I should leave. Pack up. Disappear—again.

Then I see him.

Hopper Timberbridge, my high school crush.

He’s no longer a gangly teenager. Now, he’s gruff, guarded, and fiercely protective of the life he’s built with his daughter. He doesn’t pry, doesn’t push—just takes everything in with knowing eyes that see too much. And when the threats escalate, he offers me a place to stay, a refuge I know better than to trust.

Because whatever’s lurking in the dark?

It isn’t just watching anymore. It’s coming for me.

I loved Hopper & Nysa's story! It's a little bit of a slower burn, forged by loss, wariness, and childhood trauma. Hopper has a baby daughter, Maddie, to care for. Nysa is worried about the men that chased her that dark, stormy night. Do they know she's back? Are they coming for her? Is her grandmother safe, now that she is back? Hopper bought the ranch next door over 2 years ago, are Hopper and Maddie in danger now as well? What other strange things have been going on in town? What does it have to do with the Timberbridge brothers/family?Well, the mystery has totally captivated me, so I also bought audiobook 1 from the series, and will buy the rest as they release later this year.

It is a dual narration, and I enjoyed it immensely! Stephanie and Connor are the perfect actors for this! They brought this story and these characters to life wonderfully! They are so easy to listen to. Love their voices. Love their acting. I completed it in a single session because I could not put it down! (Yes, I stayed up way too late!...but it was worth it!) Can't wait to hear book 1 and the rest of the series.

Hopper, Maddie, & Nysa 🩷 Love the suspense!

📖 This is supposed to a standalone story in an interconnected series. However, I feel like I was missing something. The climax of the story was disappointing. We don't find out who was after Nisa.

🎧 The male narrator, Chris Crais, sounds robotic. I didn't like his chapters and I nearly DNF'd the book because of him. But I liked the female narrator's chapters (Stephabie Nemeth-Parker) so I finished the story.

meh
