Freya Barker
When her sister, Pippa, goes missing, Nella Freling tells her boss she’s taking time off from her job as a research librarian, hops in her sensible van, and heads south of the border to Montana. However, local police don’t seem too concerned about a missing woman living in her motorhome. So Nella will have to look for Pippa by herself, unless she can convince a highly recommended tracker to help her, but sadly the rude and angry cowboy won’t even listen to her at first.
But Nella can be persuasive.
The first time High Mountain Tracker, Fletch Boone, laid eyes on Nella, her ass was stuck in his grocery cart. The next time was at the ranch; she was wearing mud, head to toe. But when he catches sight of her a third time, hanging off a cliff, he can’t turn his back again. What Nella lacks in survival skills she makes up for in sheer determination. Unfortunately, neither of those is enough protection when bullets start flying.
Fletch has no choice but to jump in before the woman gets herself killed.
And that would be a damn shame.

My original review from 2022 is below:
This is the first book I have read by Freya Barker. I thought this was a well written read and I will be going back to read the first book in this series.
I gave this book 4 stars because of Nella's character. As much as I enjoyed the book, Nella almost made this a DNF for me. Even Fletch and his surly behavior mellowed out over time.
My thought was that Nella was supposed to come across as a strong willed, determined, independent, intelligent woman. She came across to me as touchy, irritating, stubborn, irrational, irresponsible, and a bit flighty. Why she thought she could find anything in a wooded environment full of cliffs, streams, and animals WITHOUT someone who was familiar with the area is beyond me. It seemed like anything someone asked her to do, she would do the exact opposite. To keep getting upset with people and going off on her own made no sense. To discover that there may be dangerous people involved in a situation and decide she was going to handle things herself was ridiculous. The woman had very little sense of self preservation.
This book had a nice amount of mystery, suspense, danger, and romance. Both Fletch and Nella could be a bit prickly at times, but they did reach their HEA. It was a good read that kept me engaged despite my frustration with Nella.
