This title uses virtual voice narration

Virtual voice is computer-generated narration for audiobooks.
This pre-prequel novel answers many of the outstanding questions left open to Star Wars fans everywhere. This story begins twenty years before "Star Wars: Episode 1, The Phantom Menace." Its goal is to provide a logical backstory or history of the dozens of characters that populate the Star Wars Galaxy. The lore of this Saga is complex and interwoven over a long span of time. But, for me at least, there were many questions that never seemed to be answered (although sometimes hinted at) through the many novels, movies and ancillary writings that came before. This is my attempt to “fill-in” the blanks, giving everyone a foundation to build on and providing a solid place to push-off from, arriving at the places and time of episode 1. I want the story but it's not this story. It doesn't make sense, maybe someone can explain how this story should connect and there are not batteries in a lightsaber

Batteries in a Lightsaber ???

This was an interesting take on the backstory of some of the characters leading up to Ep.1. The reading by the AI left a lot to be desired though. Alot of the words were mispronounced and no consistency on how many were pronounced. The overall story was good, but it could have been better if it had been read by a person instead of AI.

Interesting take on the characters

I got the impression it was written in part by AI. It’s kind of fun that Darth Sidious has an affectionate relationship with Shmi Skywalker, some other back story details and enjoyable, but it cannot make up for the narration.
The narration is so bad it’s distracting. How many ways can you pronounce Qui-gon Jin? Chi-gon, key-gon, Q I-gon, qway-gong…. Anakin is now a-NA-kin. Sounds like an ancient Egyptian pharaoh.
The story ends abruptly. Maybe the book did not completely download, but I’m not going to check, I considered it finished.

Almost unlistenable

The story wasn’t horrible, although it notably omitted Darth Plagueis, incorrectly. But the AI narrating is horrible. 1) I should have never bought it, had I known it was this set up, because it takes work away from real, talented narrators. 2) the AI voice inflection was all over the place and wrong, it mispronounced words, most notably names and places, and pronounced them differently each time as well. 3) the story just ended. Mid conversation, no resolution, no ending. Just OVER, and the AI inflection didn’t lead up to any ending it just was reading a sentence then BOOM done. I will never buy an AI narrated book again, and authors that won’t pay real humans to read their stories with emotion and passion should reap what they sow and be penalized with poor sales.

Awful AI
