Once their magical abilities are discovered, the women are conscripted to help the Japanese, yet each contributes to the Korean resistance in different and powerful ways. Jung excels at bringing listeners into the story with her flawless accents. Her voice catches with each quiver of fear, lowers with each moment of shame, brightens with each glimpse of hope, and rages with each occasion of triumph. Listeners will feel as though they are hearing an intimate family history."

Didn’t love it at all

I was expecting a lot more than I got. This story follows people who suffered when Japan oppressed Korea for many decades. The thing I liked about the story was the little bits of magical realism that were thrown in. But I never got attached to any particular characters. It was as though once I really got into their story, their story would end and a new generations story would start. While I was horrified at what was described, I remained detached from the characters. I know the story has a lot of good reviews so I could be an outlier.
