Jake Moriarity. A name that strikes terror in the global underworld because of his legendary prowess as a tactical operator and missing persons consultant with the FBI. But long before any of that, he was a young, happily married seminary student in Santa Cruz, California preparing to travel to Southeast Asia upon graduation to work with his wife, Abby, in anti-human trafficking.

But two weeks before graduation on the evening of their third wedding anniversary, Abby reveals that having spent so many years working tirelessly to keep him in school she has lost herself and that his dreams are not her dreams. Together they realize that they have been so consumed by doing they forgot how to simply be. So, Jake and Abby impulsively decide to take the summer off and travel, courtesy of a monetary gift from Abby’s grandmother.

Abby quits her job, and Jake drops out of school—with a promise to finish his thesis by October. Throwing clothing and some camping gear into the back of their car, they begin an epic road trip that takes them from Yosemite National Park, to Las Vegas, where they inadvertently rescue two teenaged foster sisters from a trafficker; then on to Santa Ysabel to visit Abby’s grandmother; and finally, to Huntington Beach where Jake joyfully reunites with his sister Alicia and her family, spending sun splashed, carefree summer days at the beach.

The happy summer both had desperately needed was turning out better than either of them had hoped. But throughout their journey, Jake, known for his near psychic abilities, has felt a sinister presence lurking on the periphery. Watching. Stalking. Like a predator waiting for an opportune time to pounce. When it finally does, neither of them is prepared.

Events beyond their control throw their lives into complete turmoil, forcing Jake and Abby to channel all their energies into combatting what had once been a premonition, but has now become a reality. As the battle rages, Jake faces unimaginable tests, and wonders if the shattered fragments of his life will ever mend.

the book had no supense and not a thriller. To me it was like a normal story about every day life that could happen.
