I wanted to be an adventurer. I ended up the pack mule for a psychopathic hammer.

My name is Ash. I’m a scavenger, a blacksmith’s apprentice, and, according to the voice in my head, a "calcium-based biped with poor taste in pillows."

All I wanted was to clear my family’s debt and secure a future in Dawnwatch, the frontier town guarding the rift. Maybe even become an adventurer. But when a dungeon run went wrong, I didn’t just find loot. I found the motherload. A Soul Gem worth a kingdom.

Instead of doing the smart thing and selling the gem, I forged it into a powerful Soul Weapon, one which could make me into something far greater than I’d ever thought possible.

Only, I ended up with Roq. A modified smith’s hammer. He can crush armor, heal my wounds, and hit harder than a runaway horse. In some ways he is the ultimate weapon.

But he’s also a complete diva who demands blood sacrifices, screams about his magnificence, and refuses to sleep on anything less than satin.

Now, I have to find a way to slay enough monsters to keep him fed and become strong enough to protect those I care about.

All while arguing with a tool that thinks he’s the main character.

really good

some others find the editing of the sound is not great. I can agree about this in the beginning of the book, but it becomes better. the story also is very engaging. Blood for the blood god!

Hearty good fun!

This book was so much fun, I don't know how many times I laughed and I can't wait to listen to more. P. S. the narration was amazing! I wish more books were like this.

This was great

I enjoyed this alot it was a fun book story was cool, most of the characters enjoyable in their entirety. The only character that was a bit much every once and awhile was rock it was not all the time but some.

Excellent new series to get into.

Enjoyable story in multi dimensional worlds where adventures and scavengers go through rifts to battle monsters to increase their levels and gear. It starts off with Ash the main character is on one of these adventures with his friends. Then through a series of events he ends up with a power weapon he names Rock and changes his life. Justin Thomas James, Jessica Threet, and Jeff Hays do an excellent job of bring the story to life. I would say Rock is a little loud sometimes, but that is how the character's personality is. There are a few times when the characters are in a room where the voice echoes are to much. Like the room is empty but there should be enough items there is no echo. Bottom line is I will be looking forward to the next audio book.

Great story and amazing performance

Riftside had a compelling story of a young man becoming a strong adventurer. I don't want to say more and spoil the story, but it had likable characters and a nice take on the litrpg genre.

The voice acting was phenomenal and wish more audio books were of this high quality.

Can't wait for book 2!
