In Howard's fascinating novel, "2084," we journey into a future where Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become an integral part of human life. The story follows Dr. Maya Wong, a brilliant AI researcher, and Zane Abdullah, a charismatic politician, as they deal with the complex and often troubled relationship between humanity and its most powerful creation. The book opens with a world teetering on the brink of chaos. Global crises, political turmoil, and environmental disasters set the stage for AI's emergence as a potential savior. As AI technology rapidly advances, it promises solutions to humanity's most pressing problems but also raises thoughtful questions about control, ethics, and the very nature of being human.

"2084" explores the impact of AI on every aspect of society, from crime and justice to healthcare and education. We witness the rise of AI-driven governance, the transformation of work and leisure, and the emergence of a new world order. Throughout the story, Howard deftly portrays the hopes and fears surrounding AI, highlighting the potential for both progress and peril. Will AI lead us to a utopia of peace and prosperity, or will it usher in an era of unprecedented control and alienation? This thought-provoking novel invites us to consider these questions and imagine the possibilities of a world shaped by the minds of metal and magic.

The book by itself is mildly interesting. But in my opinion is not a related to 1984 at all. It does not seem to take place in the same “universe” at George Orwells 1984.

I was hoping for a continuation in the original Orwell series. Perhaps seeing how large Big Brother and the Party had risen in 100 years. The only similarity I noticed was rather than citizens being scrutinized by a telescreen and the Thought Police, they are watched by a A.I. hologram.

However there is not much mentioned about citizens who not conform. There is no hidden rebellion or ministry of love

If you are a fan of George Orwells 1984 and that “universe” or simply just a fan of dystopian fiction, a much more interesting book is “Julia”, by Sandra Newman. On audible it’s narrated by Louise breely. And done perfectly in my opinion. Julia follows the same events as 1984, only told through the eyes of Julia, the love interest of the main character in 1984, Winston Smith.
